This slide focuses on the two major link layer technologies (Ethernet and WiFi) and compares them on the basis of management.
The only factors that a network manger needs to control for in Ethernet, or any wired technology, are relatively easier and fewer in number for eg Full or Half Duplex, Auto negotiation of speed etc. The screenshot of the Fluke LinkRunner showed how it had detected what duplex modes and speeds are available and in use.
On the other hand, there are a number of issues that a network manager needs to decide when a using a wireless technology like WiFi. These include the Channel used, Modulation, Data rate, RTS threshold, SSID, Security Mode (WEP or WPA).
The images show examples of the Microsoft Windows interface for configuring two network interfaces, one Gigabit Ethernet (GBE) and the other WiFi.
