IP Route TableEdit
In MIB-2, IP Groupe contains three tables: ipAddrTable , ipRouteTable, ipNetToMediaTable . The ipRouteTable provides route selecting information. It contains an entry to each route presently known to the entity. It can be used both in route controlling(as the read-write objects) and configuration monitoring. The table below indicates a brief summary of objects in ipRouteTable.
Tim's summary of objects
|ipRouteDest together with ipRouteMask provides the destination subnet that’s reachable via the route|
|Using the route||ipRouteIfIndex
Which interface to send through
IP address of where to send to. The IP Address of the interface and the IP Address of the next hop must be in the same subnet.
|About the route||ipRouteMetric [1-4]||Cost of using the route. Multiple values are needed as different routing protocol uses different cost metric.|
Type of the route – Direct(3), Indirect(4), Invalid(2) & None(1).
Which protocol (if any) was it learned through?
OID of protocol that it was learned through
How old is it (in seconds)?
Below is a brief example of a IP route table of a router. The destination 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 acts as a default gateway, meaning that the router will forward packets to 192.168.0.100 if the destination doesn't exist in its routeing table. Instead of the interface index, its showing the IP address of the interface. As it can be seen from the table that the ip address of the interface and the gateway must be in the same subnet.
