This slide show us an example of the syntax of object type definition. On the left hand side of the slide,it is the syntax of description. On the right hand side,it is the example of macro for defining object type.

Structure of Management Information

Structure of Management Information defines the rules for how managed objects are described and how management protocols can access these objects. The object type definition uses the following syntax:

 
object name OBJECT-TYPE ---A textual name which called the object descriptor.
SYNTAX syntax ---The abstract syntax for the object type.
UNITS "units" ---This field is optional.
MAX-ACCESS access ---Defines the access that a user has to this object.
STATUS status ---Defines the status of the object.
DESCRIPTION "descriptiveText" ---A textual description of the semantics of the object type.
REFERENCE "referenceText" ---This field is also optional.
INDEX {indexTypes} ---Only used when the object is part of a conceptual row of objects.
DEFVAL {defaultValue} ---Also only used when the object should have a default value.
::= { group # } ---The RFC 1213-defined group to which the object belongs.
